If events are missing, out of date, or not showing changes you made elsewhere, syncing has usually hit a snag with one connected account. Work through this checklist from the top — the early steps fix most cases.
1. Confirm which account is affected
Check whether the problem is one account or all of them. On your unified timeline, note whether events from a single provider are missing while others sync fine. That tells you where to focus.
2. Check your network connection
nocal syncs over the internet. Confirm your device is online and can reach other sites. On mobile, try switching between Wi-Fi and cellular. If you're on a restricted or corporate network, a firewall may be blocking sync.
3. Make sure a calendar isn't just hidden
A calendar toggled off only hides events — it doesn't mean sync failed. Open Settings → Accounts, expand the account, and confirm the relevant calendars are toggled on. See calendar modes.
4. Update the app
An out-of-date app can cause sync problems. Update nocal:
- iPhone / Android: update via the App Store or Google Play.
- Mac / Windows: let the app update itself or install the latest from the nocal website.
See install nocal on all your devices. After updating, reopen the app and give sync a minute.
5. Reconnect the account
If a specific account is stuck, its authorization may have expired or been revoked. Reconnecting refreshes nocal's access via OAuth:
- Open Settings → Accounts.
- Select the affected account.
- Choose Reconnect and complete the provider sign-in.
This resolves many sync issues on its own.
6. Check provider-side access
Confirm nocal still has permission with the provider, and that nothing on their side is blocking it:
- Google: verify nocal still has access in your Google Account, and check make a Google Calendar public or private if shared-calendar events are missing.
- Microsoft: check nocal's app permissions, and remember that work or school accounts may require admin consent — see connect your Outlook or Microsoft calendar. If your organization revoked consent, ask IT to re-approve nocal.
7. Remove and re-add the account
If reconnecting doesn't work, remove the account and add it fresh:
- Disconnect the account.
- Add it again with Google or Microsoft sign-in.
Your notes stay in nocal during this process — they aren't deleted when you remove an account.
8. Allow time for the first sync
After reconnecting or re-adding, the first sync can take a few minutes — longer for calendars with lots of history. Keep the app open and online while it catches up.
Quick reference
| Symptom | First thing to try |
|---|---|
| All accounts not syncing | Check network, update app |
| One account not syncing | Reconnect that account |
| Some events missing | Check calendar visibility toggles |
| Microsoft work account fails | Confirm admin consent |
| Changes not appearing | Wait for sync, then reconnect |
Still stuck?
If syncing still fails after these steps, it may be a temporary provider outage — try again later. Note exactly which account and what's missing so support can help faster.
