nocal Keyboard Shortcuts Cheat Sheet

The keyboard shortcuts built into the nocal desktop app for navigating your calendar, creating events and notes, and switching calendar groups — on Mac and Windows.

Keyboard shortcuts make the nocal desktop app faster to move through — jumping between days, switching calendar groups, and creating notes without reaching for the mouse. This page lists the shortcuts the app ships with.

Note: These are the default shortcuts in the nocal desktop app. On Mac the modifier is Cmd (⌘); on Windows it's Ctrl. Most calendar shortcuts can be reassigned in Preferences, so your bindings may differ if you've customized them.

The command menu (Cmd / Ctrl + K) is the fastest way to find a past meeting or note — use the arrow keys to move through results, Enter to open, and Esc to close. See search your notes and events.

Writing notes

Inside a note (see take notes on an event), the standard text-formatting shortcuts apply:

ActionMacWindows
BoldCmd + BCtrl + B
ItalicCmd + ICtrl + I
StrikethroughCmd + Shift + SCtrl + Shift + S
Bullet listCmd + Shift + 8Ctrl + Shift + 8
Numbered listCmd + Shift + 7Ctrl + Shift + 7
BlockquoteCmd + Shift + BCtrl + Shift + B

The note editor also understands markdown as you type — enter characters like **bold**, ## Heading, or [ ] and nocal formats them automatically. You can also type / for the insert menu or @ to link a note or event.
